Hello World!
Welcome to my website!
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chile. I received my Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego (2017), an M.A. in Sociology from the Catholic University of Chile(2010), and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Chile (2008).
My research integrates the analysis of social class with the study of work, industrial relations, and collective action, with a particular emphasis on Latin America. Drawing on comparative perspectives and mixed methods, I examine the institutional and political factors that shape industrial relations dynamics, including labor conflict and collective bargaining systems. I also analyze how workers and employers exercise collective power through unions and business associations, as well as how inequalities in class power shape and are shaped by labor policy. Details about my current research projects can be found here.I am the author of Building Power to Shape Labor Policy (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2023). My work has been published in journals such as European Journal of Industrial Relations, Journal of Industrial Relations, Economic and Industrial Democracy, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, Critical Sociology, and Business and Politics.
I also serve on the Editorial Board of the American Sociological Review, as Editor of the Revista de Sociología, and as a Board Member-at-Large of the International Sociological Association Research Committee on Labour Movements (ISA RC44).
I regularly teach courses on Sociology of Work and Quantitative Research Methods at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Beyond the university, I also contribute to political education programs organized by labor unions, lecturing on industrial relations, politics, and collective action.
When not teaching or conducting research, I enjoy listening to music (mostly punk rock in its many forms), practicing traditional kung fu, and following Colo-Colo—the best football club in the world.
